Pura Veda Gurukulam

Sonia Kneeling and Teaching.jpg

WHAT IS A GURUKULAM?

In Sanskrit "guru" means teacher and "kula" is home, so a gurukulam is the teacher's home. This is the way that Yoga was traditionally taught: the student would live near or with the teacher and would learn through daily living and practice.

In this way, living and learning are one.

Meditation, pranayama, yoga, ayurveda and mindfulness all provide insight into living happier healthier lives. Join us at Pura Veda where we employ the ancient gurukulam system so that you can immerse yourself in practical workshops that will help you make healthier choices to meet your physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

OUR LOCATION

Located in one of the five Blue Zones in the world (where people live longer, happier lives), Pura Veda is conveniently located near the Ostional Wildlife Refuge (known for its turtle nesting), amazing surf beaches like Guiones, Nosara, and Marbella, and minutes away from the Pacha Mama Eco Village.  Easily accessible, from Liberia International Airport by bus, taxi or car, yet still has the feel of seclusion while being surrounded by nature.

You will be staying only 1.5 Km from the beach, which means you can drive, take a leisurely stroll, or bike down the road less traveled to the beach.  You choose: a beach with more people presence or a beach that feels like it is all yours. Playa Pacha Mama or Venus as it is known to locals has some great snorkeling, and shade for those interested in just relaxing near the ocean.  A stone's throw away is Playa Pescadores (Fisherman's Beach), which is also beautiful and usually has more visitors.

During your stay you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. It is the perfect place to unplug.* Sit or lay on a hammock and listen to the birds chirping throughout the day, or listen for the howler’s as they leisurely make their way through the property. Take a tour of the land and learn about the medicinal properties that each of the plants has to offer.  Take away the knowledge that will help you as you continue on your healing journey.

At night, gaze at the stars and count the “shooting stars” as the property is kept dimly lit so people can truly take in the night skies normally not visible near cities.  Bring a flash light as it does get dark.  Let your body rediscover its natural rhythm and let nature do the healing as you rise and sleep with the cycle of the moon and the sun.

Wholesome, delicious meals are available upon request. Take your taste buds on a journey as the rest of your body enjoys the healing properties of the meals prepared especially for you.

*If you require consistent internet you can choose to bring an unlocked cell phone and purchase a SIM card which gives you access to pre paid minutes.  You can purchase a SIM card at the airport or at most supermarkets including Super San Juanillo (the local market). You can add minutes as needed.  The SIM card costs about 2,000 colones (roughly about $4 USD)  There are three providers avialable:  Kolbi (passport number required), Claro, and Moviestar.  Local restaurants such as Ancient People and Buddha Hotel also provide Wi-Fi.
